Snapchat ads for Telegram channels: a practical playbook

Most Telegram buyers live on Meta and TikTok. Snapchat gets ignored, partly from habit and partly because people assume its tracking is harder. It isn’t. Snap has a pixel, a server-side Conversions API and a click ID, the same three things you need on every platform.

This playbook covers the setup and the creative side, so you can test Snapchat properly instead of writing it off after a weekend.

Why test Snapchat at all

Every platform has its own audience and its own auction. A creative angle that’s saturated on one can still be fresh on another. Snapchat skews towards a mobile-first, Story-native audience that’s comfortable tapping straight into apps, which suits a Telegram funnel well.

We won’t promise you cheaper results, because that depends entirely on your offer, geo, creative and timing. What we can say is that testing a new platform with proper tracking costs a small, controlled budget. Testing it without tracking costs the same budget and teaches you nothing.

Step 1: Snap Pixel and Conversions API token

In Snapchat Ads Manager, open Events Manager and select your Snap Pixel, or create one. You don’t have to install it on a site for this setup. It acts as the destination for your server events.

  1. Copy the Pixel ID. It looks like a long ID with dashes.
  2. Generate a Conversions API token. Depending on your account, you’ll find it in Business settings or in the pixel’s setup in Events Manager.
  3. Store the token like a password.

Step 2: Connect it and send a test

In Joinvoo, open the Snapchat tab for your channel, paste the Pixel ID and token, and send a test. The test goes to Snapchat’s validation endpoint, which checks your ID, token and event format without recording a real conversion. That makes it safe to test as often as you like.

Pick the join event. SUBSCRIBE fits a channel join. SIGN_UP fits a bot that registers people.

Step 3: Create the campaign

  • Goal: Website conversions.
  • Pixel and event: your Snap Pixel and the event above.
  • Web URL: your tracking link, set as the ad’s website attachment. Never the channel’s own invite link.

Add URL parameters so each join carries campaign, ad set and ad names. Snapchat supports dynamic URL macros. A typical pattern:

utm_source=snapchat&utm_campaign={{campaign.name}}&utm_term={{adSet.name}}&utm_content={{ad.name}}

Confirm the macro names in Ads Manager’s URL builder before launch, since platforms add and rename macros over time.

How the click becomes a conversion

When someone taps your ad, Snap adds its click ID to your URL (the ScCid parameter). Your tracking link stores it with the time, IP address and user agent, then sends the person into Telegram with a unique invite link for that click.

When they join, your bot sees which link was used. That gives you the click, which gives you the click ID, which is exactly what Snap needs to match the server event to the person who tapped. The event goes out through the Conversions API as SUBSCRIBE, and the ad gets the credit.

The general mechanics are the same across platforms. We cover them in detail in Conversions API for Telegram funnels, explained.

Creative that works on Snapchat

Snapchat ads appear between Stories and in Discover. People are used to full-screen, vertical, quick content from people and brands they follow. Your ad competes with that, not with banner ads.

Make it look like a Story

  • Shoot vertical, 9:16, full screen.
  • Put the hook in the first second. There’s no time for a logo intro.
  • Use real-looking footage or simple screen recordings over heavily produced graphics.
  • Keep any text inside the safe zone so the interface doesn’t cover it.

Show what’s inside

People join channels for what they’ll get. A short scroll through real (or realistic) posts from your channel, a tip, a deal, a preview of the content: that’s your strongest hook. Then one clear call to action: tap to join.

Use the swipe, not a speech

Long explanations lose people. Get the viewer curious enough to tap, then let the channel do the rest.

Reading your first results

Give a new platform enough budget and time to show a pattern before judging it. Look at:

  • Cost per real join, with fake and suspicious joins excluded.
  • What happens after the join: do these people stay, read, click?
  • Junk by creative: if one creative pulls lots of suspicious joins, it’s attracting the wrong people, even if it looks cheap.

If you track deposits or sales via postbacks, compare cost per first purchase across platforms too. That’s the comparison that actually decides budget. See Reading your numbers: ROAS, CPL and FTD rate without fooling yourself for how to read these without fooling yourself.

Scaling once it works

When a Snapchat ad set proves itself, scale it the same careful way you would on any platform: gradual budget increases, new ad sets for new audiences, fresh creative before the old one burns out. How to scale a winning ad set without killing it goes through it step by step.

Recap

Snap Pixel plus Conversions API token. Tracking link as the web URL. SUBSCRIBE sent back for every real join, with the click ID. Story-native creative that shows what’s inside the channel.

Joinvoo sends every join to Snapchat, Meta and TikTok at once, so testing a new platform is a five-minute job. Follow the setup guide or start free with 500 joins included.
